Beeper Collar
A beeper collar is a collar that is used around the neck of a hunting dog. The beeper collar assists a hunter with being able to know several key pieces of information while hunting. The beeper collar tells the hunter if their hunting dog is running when they are out of the hunterís site, as well as whether the hunting dog is ìon point.î
The way that a beeper collar works on the hunting dog is that it is a motion sensor. This motion sensor emits off a sound from the speaker attached to the beeper collar, and depending on the number of beeps the collar emits, it tells the hunter whether their dog is running or standing still. For example, a beeper collar can be set to beep every five seconds while the dog is running, and will then beep every second when the dog has stopped running. A hunting dog is trained to stop running and ìpointî to a bird when it has been spotted.
A common beeper collar setting is the ìpoint onlyî mode, which allows the beeper collar to stay silent while the hunting dog is running, but begins to beep once the dog has stopped running and is pointing at the bird.
